Princetown visitor centre relaunch welcomed
A former moorland visitor centre is to be reopened as a tourist and artists’ attraction after its closure prompted fears it would hit the local economy.

Can’t get enough of drawing trees! Focussing (mainly!) on trees in Plymouth, where I live. This one is a beautiful yew tree at Pounds House. Pencil on paper.

This one is nearly finished. It’s a monotype print, with a pencil drawing over the top. The tree can be found along Drake’s Trail near Clearbrook. Not sure about a title……any suggestions welcome!

I'm helping out at this again this year, and our son's band The Juliettes are playing in the evening. It's a fab event - always well-attended with a great atmosphere- showcasing local bands and musicians up to 18 years of age. Sunday 3rd of May, The Horse, Moretonhamstead.

A bit more work done on this drawing today. Just over half way. It’s a yew tree from Pounds Park Plymouth. Not sure about the needles, a bit overworked…(I may need the rubber)!

Continuing to work on my sketchbook of Plymouth trees, started last August. These are two blue biro drawings. One is a lovely yew tree in Pounds Park and the other is a line of oaks at Barn Park. Looking forward to sharing more drawings during Plymouth’s Urban Tree Festival in May😁

Absolutely thrilled that my monotype and drawing ‘Communion’ 1 has been selected for the Peirson and Peirson Contemporary Art prize & exhibition in Plymouth. Woot!😁 The landscape is inspired by late light through woodland. The trees are at Norsworthy Bridge at Burrator Reservoir.

Another couple of small monotype prints that I made recently for an upcoming exhibition here in Plymouth. I’ve drawn a tree over the top of one print. I’m working on another similar but larger piece which is nearly finished. ‘Equinox’ 1 & 4

This one is finished now…..I think! A few days of fiddling with it, but it’s time to stop. Now to frame and put on my website. Titled, ‘Spirit of Winter’ I hope it conjures up the feel of cold darker days on Dartmoor. Monotype and ink drawing.

‘Gathering’ #2 New monotype with pencil drawing. Experimenting with lighter colours, but trying to keep the same atmospheric feel as my darker pieces. I love the quiet found amongst the fir trees at Burrator.

Getting down to some drawing this afternoon. Using ink pen to draw the trees on top of the monotypes I made a couple of weeks ago. Inspired by a beautifully misty area in the trees near Burrator, Devon. Nearly there, I think….

Ellen Thesleff's self portrait of 1895, goes beyond a depiction of outward appearances and conveys the enigma of the artist who helped introduce Impressionism to Finland; she regarded herself as a poet with a brush, always trying to capture what she called 'the dream of life.'

Got my printing press out for the first time this year! Spent a few lovely hours looking at ideas & making 3 Dartmoor inspired monotypes. Once they are dry, I will draw trees on the top with ink pen. The wide landscape will then be brought in to a more intimate view.🤞

A gathering of trees at Devonport Park. As well as drawing, I also make monotype prints. I’ve started a series of monotypes on the theme of gathering. When the print is dry, I draw trees on the top. I think I’ll use this drawing again for another in the series.

I visited Devonport Park in Plymouth last week. It’s not a park I know very well, but it was lovely to see how well it’s looked after. I picked out a few special trees to photograph and will be drawing them over the next few days. Here’s one: a beautifully shaped Lime tree.

beautiful outline drawing, I thought I’d have a go with the twisting branches of the Lucombe Oak. It’s interesting to think where this type of drawing can go. My first thoughts are usually to fill with colour to create abstraction….
