It took me two years, but I’ve finally finished my latest #SciArt piece! This is a bathymetric woodcarving of Trout Lake, where I’ve spent a lot of time as a grad student. I carved it using a router and Dremel, then filled with epoxy. As I wrap up my PhD, it feels right to finish this work. #art

The first paper from my PhD is now out in @aslo.org Limnology and Oceanography Letters! We used nine years of daily temp and chl data from Peter, Paul, and Tuesday Lakes to show that aquatic heatwaves increased surface chlorophyll concentrations during 24 out of 29 events. doi.org/10.1002/lol2...

My #MacrophyteMonday plant is coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum)! This aquatic plant is a common and beneficial part of #Michigan #lake communities. It is sometimes confused with invasive Eurasian milfoil, but is easily distinguished (1/n).
