Okay maybe I had one more #igivearod post in me for the year. We got 136 projects in by lanterns light, surely we can make it 137 in a sneak finish.

I have no words. The astounding generosity of each person who donated or shared, not to mention the organizers, matching donors, spreadsheet elves... You've changed so many lives for the better. And you've shown countless people what care and community look like, at a time when it's easy to forget.

My city boy is living his best farm dog life this week while I'm on vacation. Pretty sure I will be booking him a bath as soon as I get home, but the absolute delight in his expression with every pic my mom sends is making me happy.

It's my 38th birthday today I ignored my family during my birthday brunch to watch Blair come under the arch the year of the first @igivearod.bsky.social . This year I'm at the zoo with niblings while tracking the final push, loving this birthday memory and the #uglydogs corner of the Internet.

The dogs finished their race, and did it well, and made their humans proud. And we are so proud of them too. All of them, from all 3 teams.

Abe was mad about the scrubs today and wouldn't acknowledge snuggles. 5 hours later, I fully get the mood. I too am mostly grumpy at the world.

What I'm going to remember about this year is Pepé running lead at 11yrs old for almost 700 miles, across what many called the worst trails they ever ran. Q running while in the midst of mourning, but never quitting. The #uglydogs coming together for @igivearod.bsky.social That's worth celebrating

It's 0530 in Kansas and @quincemountain.bsky.social and team Bravermountain have exactly 500miles to go. To celebrate I donated to this @igivearod.bsky.social donors choose, because kids learning to cook is a blast. It's one of the bigger asks but surely we can finish it off, right? #uglydogs

There is a lot of resting happening in the middle of the night iditarod, but for those racing, they are really RACING. Average speed currently seems to be in the 8-9 range.

Q is making great forward progress, Nic just made a concerning U-turn and is back in Kaltag, (I hope his team is okay) and Paige has been resting on the trail 11miles before Unalakleet for 3+hrs. It's 0100 on day 8 and there is so much happening on the #iditarod53 trail.

We are here, those fans. Definitely listening.

Abe and I just went on a long walk on our (very much not the Iditarod 😆) neighborhood trail. He thinks it's the best, and I never fail to feel better after I force myself to get outside and move. Dogs are the best, y'all.

I've only been an Iditarod fan for a decade now, but even at that I'm over here chanting under my breath "come on, Paige, the women need a win". Also Paige is awesome, Go Paige for the sake of Paige. Ditto Mille and Michelle and Emily and Sam and Anna and Gabe and Jenny and Sydnie.

I should be sleeping, but one last check was necessary. Q is moving and almost to Ruby! Paige is getting ready to go out from her 24! It's all exciting. #iditarod53

So they took down the Ruby camera, where multiple teams are and more are still coming, to put up the Kaltag camera, which is at least 40 miles away from the closest team. Cool cool.

I need to do the things and take a nap and prepare for work tonight and instead I'm just obsessively watching tiny flags move on a webpage. Or worse, not move. I just really love the Iditarod. (Seriously, though, I need a flag to move.)
