🌱 August weather in May, no rain this week so may need to water new plants. Established plants are sunbathing!

🌱 Next up in natives: Bradbury’s Monarda

🌱 Trying to catch pix of bees for Crown Bees “Where the Wild Bees Are” data collection 5/17-5/23. None of the others settled long enough for me to snap a picture today. This guy was so big and so slow! If you want to help just post your bee pix to iNaturalist.

🌱Happy day in the garden… lupine we planted from seed is going to bloom this year, Pearly Everlasting is hosting American Lady butterfly babies and the Blue Baptisia/peony combination is perfect.

🌱 Not much rain in the rain garden this week, but the Woodland phlox and Maidenhair fern seem happy.

JK Rowling is now represented by a trans person in the Scottish parliament. Absolutely incredible.

🌱 Next up in natives Robin’s Plantain and Wild Hyacinth. I think Wild Hyacinth is the most beautiful ephemeral.

🌱Need expertise… In my rain garden I have thousands of baby plants sprouting where the water moved the mulch. Could be seeds from the plants in the garden, could be weed seeds that were in the soil and finally got sun, could be seeds that come in with the rain… idk. Too early to ID, any ideas?

🌱 My plants are waiting for a sunny day and maybe a change from the frosty nights. Many flowers to come! I can’t wait and I love waiting?

🌱 This one keeps trying to catch and eat the emerging bees. They are not so good at flying rn so she is staying inside for a bit, till the clouds take over again.

🌱Up next in natives…. Jacob’s Ladder. Excited about this because the plants have been growing well but this is the first year for lots of flowers.

🌱 Lots more rain coming today… I think I am going to enlarge this rain garden to capture as much as I can from the downpours. We are more often getting rain in heavy bursts with large amounts in a few hours or a day. Not so many gentle all-day rains.

A little bit of gardening is a lot better than none.

🌱 First to go in the bed are my ollas! My plants grow lush and strong thanks to the beautiful pots by @onewintrynight.bsky.social. Can’t wait to have too may tomatoes!

🌱 First bed of the early veg in! Spinach, peas, chard, radish, lettuce, sorrel, carrots. Have to bird net the peas or the sparrows eat the leaves, so shields up. More planting to do but this was FUN!

🌱 70’s today and down to 30’s tomorrow. Working on chop and drop in the native garden, as many of the cool season growers are greening up.

Goldenrod is on the go in the warm false spring weather. It is terribly lovely at the wrong time.

🌱 Sun is out and it’s in the 20’s, hurray! Don’t dare think about spring but we are having fun doing outside chores today. Poppy is v happy!
