Still think brain regions don’t exist? That everything is everywhere? That cell types don’t matter and that everything is a dynamical phase portrait? Wrong. Interconnected brain modules exist at the level of fine grained transcriptomics.

Today @TheNewYorker released our short documentary “Rovina’s Choice” online. It traces the ongoing effects of the sudden shutdown of US foreign aid through the story of one mother in Kenya as she seeks to save her daughter from sickness and starvation. 🎥 1/

United States has been blocking with France the UN-led referendum to decide the fate of Western Sahara since it was agreed in the 1991 armistice. United States has pushing for this for 34 years, always opposing end to the occupation. And 50 years of brutal military occupation is not 'funny'.

This is the absolutely most outrageous decision from the UN by far. They favor terror over peace and corrupt, primitive oligarchies over democracies. They support Morocco just because there has been much money to be gained through stealing from Sahrawis. Fucking disgusting.

Using generative AI to increase sceptics’ engagement with climate science - Nature Climate Change
Climate sceptics tend to avoid climate information, making it even harder to reduce scepticism. This study shows that generative AI can enhance sceptics’ engagement with climate news by tailoring headlines to their existing perspective and shift their beliefs towards the scientific consensus.

From Monkey Brains to Human Meaning
In this new Nature Communications study, Hartle, Kishida, Sands, Montague, and colleagues recorded neurochemical activity from the caudate nucleus of patients with Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor undergoing deep brain stimulation surgery. As the patients played a simple game deciding whether to accept fair or unfair offers of money, their brains revealed a molecular conversation in real time — one that distinguished the two diseases at the level of neurotransmitter signaling.

People keep imagining that these systems can be made hallucination-free. But they aren’t really designed to distinguish fact from fiction. Essentially they’re just stimulus-response loops full of calcium ions.

Some years ago we showed that working-memory fMRI activity in sensorimotor network is modulated by the effector used to respond. Looking back, I am not saying this was a good paper, but conceptually I find this one of the most interesting studies I've done so far:

Remember how to use it: Effector-dependent modulation of spatial working memory activity in posterior parietal cortex
Working memory (WM) is the key process linking perception to action. Several lines of research have, accordingly, highlighted WM’s engagement in sensori-motor associations between retrospective stimul...

Had my paper rejected at a major NPG journal. One reviewer enthusiastic (R 2), two negative (R1 and 3). Problem is, R3 is a student of R1, and their reviews were even combined in round 1 so its hardly an independent review (quality of R1 aside) Should I appeal or just fuck NPG and send elsewhere?
