Useful notes on some current policy and political issues in China. By now (and for a long time now) to think about the world is if China were a predictable (or, worse, "inscrutable") black box is as counterproductive as e.g. looking at the US as a monolithic actor with easily readable dynamics.

From @stateofcdr.bsky.social. My oversimplified view is that the energy and political prerequisites to carbon removal at scale are so large that it's a sequel --not even complementary-- to the energy transition. This report is infinitely more informative than that, and optimistic in its pessimism.

Is anybody doing a technical game-theoretical model of what's going on? I suspect it'd be interesting an non-trivial if you go at the sub-country level - and tackle heads on Trump's mind, where the strategic and the psychiatric intersect.

I don't have any direct experience of war but I'm confident that most every one is different, and Ukrainians' during the ongoing invasion is certainly worth paying attention to as very informative about the present [as well as helping stop; I'm not claiming or aiming at clinical detachment].

The plural of viral schadenfreude isn't data, so here's some data [and analysis]. I don't know that the main tendencies are qualitatively unsurprising --except the part about gender, at least to me-- but this sort of work is absolutely necessary to put analysis and response on a solid footing.
