In DARK MIRROR by Arno Schmidt there is a great bit where the protagonist, the last man on earth after nuclear war, writes a lengthy letter to the author of a book featured in an old Readers Digest, shredding it and the author’s (who is certainly dead) dismissal of Greek achievements in antiquity.
