I had a really annoying mulberry tree in my front yard, it dropped stuff everywhere. I wanted to plant grass and rototill the ground, the city said “Let us do it.” I said ok. They rototilled and cut all the roots of the tree, which then died. I learned about how cutting roots kills trees.
