These little ones were maybe my most exciting find - they are #pipevine #swallowtail #caterpillars. I watched the butterfly lay her eggs, which I was over the moon about, and then brought them in for safety. They are hatching, and there are dozens! I can’t wait to watch them grow.

This is a #hummingbird #moth, which I was VERY excited to find on my native honeysuckle this year. They are very similar in color to the plant they live on, and therefore hard to find. I have two - the 2nd has burrowed under the bed of leaves I made on the enclosure floor to pupate and overwinter.

All of the #caterpillars I’m raising are wild - they’ve hatched on the host plants in my yard, and I bring them in to keep them safe from predators as they grow. These spicebush #swallowtails will pupate soon, and many of them will overwinter in my garage and released as #butterflies in the Spring.

My #pollinator garden has really taken off! Enjoy this awesome timelapse that I just took of a pupating #monarch #caterpillar. It should be a tad longer but my phone died 😩. I have 25 monarchs, and as soon as they emerge as butterflies they will be off on their arduous journey to winter in Mexico.

Sharing my excitement! Besides 🧶, my hobby is 🦋. My front yard is full of native host 🌱 and 🌼. I bring the 🐛 inside to protect them from predators as they grow. This year so far I have 20 monarchs, 14 spicebush swallowtails, and a hummingbird moth. We’ve had lots of 🦋 visitors too!

Last night I got home at 10pm, so I didn’t spin much. I have 1 more strip (about 1oz) and then it’s ply time! This is my last bobbin, and I leave tomorrow on vacation. It’s interesting how bobbin layers only allow glimpses of the whole, & sometimes you get shots like this - the fiber itself contains rich magenta into maroon and deep slate gray with hints of teal, but this angle only shows pastels in between, with the slightest hint of a brighter pink peeking out.
