Fun fact: They're wearing masks (and not wearing badges) in the Red states where there is this "cooperation" Rep. Steil speaks of. ICE is engaged in the same tactics everywhere. Folks like Rep. Steil need to unpack what this "cooperation" means. The idea seems to unravel so quickly when they do.

Want to be clear: Homan kept saying Operation Metro Surge won't stop until the "violence" against ICE/CBP agents stops. To him that's impeding their work (i.e. whistles, recording, road blockades, etc.). He didn't mention the conduct of ICE/CBP or the murders of Renee Nicole Good or Alex Pretti.

If 700 ICE/CBP agents are leaving today (2/4), that suggests ~300 left last week (they didn't give an exact number then). So, after one week of Homan, upwards of 1,000 agents have been redeployed out of Minnesota. Of the original ~3,000.

A lot (and not a lot) came out of Homan's press conference. Takeaways: 700 ICE/CBP leaving today (2/4). Claims of unprecedented cooperation with sheriff's, but what he described is work ICE and local law enforcement already do together. Surge won't end until violence against agents stops. 🧵
