Today I visited Zealandia and of course asked about the chance of seeing the resident takahē. Basically no chance, my guide replied. Their habitat is off-limited to visitors right now and they rarely venture beyond it. Resigned to this, I sat down on bench to watch riflemen...and who peeked out?
