This Grey Heron was struggling for ages with this huge fish. It went into the reeds with it, then emerged without, sipping water a few mins later. I can’t see how it could possibly have swallowed it, but will never know for sure… #birds 🪶

Had some fantastic views of Great Grey Shrike, though it did make us wait! #birds 🪶

The Barn Owl did take some prey, a field vole possibly, but it was quite distant at the time so difficult to tell. One of the local Magpies was on it in a flash, but the Owl saw it off and flew away with its late breakfast @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social @mercianbirding.bsky.social #birds 🪶

Also today, I never realised that Jackdaws had some degree of iridescence to their feathers. These were part of a group on some feeders and the way the light caught their feathers was subtle and very beautiful #birds 🪶 @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social

Nice bright day which started slowly, but then came through with good views of male Pintail, Great White Egret, Greater Spotted Woodpecker and got given some serious side-eye from a Shoveler which cruised in close #birds 🪶 @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
