This art appears on the back of the Atlas game Majin Tensei for the Super Famicom. While Kazuma Kaneko was the art director for the game, I'm not sure if he did the package illustration. The illo has also been credited to Yasuhiro Kagami but I understand that he may have only painted the horned head

Has anyone documented or scanned these Nintendo brochures? Were probably aimed at retailers rather than direct consumers. Not sure if the images are fronts or interiors. SNES one saw additional use in international Nintendo mags (Chile, Sweden) but I'm looking for info on the actual brochures

US box art gets a lot of flack for characters & details deviating wildly from the actual game but what's up w/ the sword in Japan's first Zelda game logo? That intricate hilt looks a bit conspicuous... @historyofhyrule.com? Big Zelda fan but haven't played the first entry. Hope I'm not too off-base!

Our recent podcast episode talked a bit about Justin Carroll and John Hamagami who together formed Hamagami/Carroll Inc., a graphic design consultancy w/ significant work in the video game industry. The box art for Pac-Man (Atari 5200) is signed but I don't think the artist has yet been identified. The same initials also appear on the unused box art for Pac-Man 5200 on page 169 of Art of Atari but the artist also isn't named there. The initials look to me like 'PL' or 'AL'

Those are the initials of Dirk John Wunderlich (DJW). He did the SNES box art for Super Troll Islands and confirmed he did the NES Europe art for ASC's The Trolls in Crazyland. He is credited in the manual for Snow White in Happily Ever After SNES but said it wasn't his (though perhaps he forgot)

I don't think I've yet properly identified "C. Buxton" but here are two additional illustrations they did: Defenders of the Earth and Death Trap. Death Trap was published by Anco. I haven't been through their catalog much yet, but I suspect they worked on other Anco boxes

FTL Games artist David R. Darrow passed away in May 2025. He was known to gamers for illustrating the box art for Dungeon Master as well as for FTL's first game Sundog. He also did extensive work for Hollywood films

Whoops! Until now, I NEVER knew that the guy on the left was attempting to pull a lever. I always thought it was someone scaling the wall. It looked awkward and I thought the person possessed (the boot blends in with the wall) so I always dismissed the art as weird. Funny seeing it different now

The box art for Team 17's The Speris Legacy was illustrated by Mark Taylor. I'm not sure whether this is the same Mark Taylor (1941–2021) known for his involvement in the creation of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe (MOTU) franchise

I've been trying to identify the intended usage for this Assassins Creed Origins artwork. I believe it was done for merchandising and the artist Kerry Gammill has also done sculpture designs. The artwork is ultimately preliminary, so despite the differences maybe its this? Any other ideas?

Unused NES box art for Sunsoft's Super Spy Hunter, as seen in a Sunsoft 1990 CES sales kit

My restoration of #PrinceOfPersia's artwork by Katsuya Terada used on the cover of the #SuperFamicom and #SuperNintendo (PAL) releases. This is a v2 of my previous work adding missing bits at the top/bottom using different sources, applying the usual upscale/clean/retouch combo.

Turns out those initials are actually MD and the artist is UK illustrator Mark Duffin, who also did the Atari ST box art for Tempest, though Mark confirmed for OVGA that neither original painting was ever returned. Mark said both were a rush and had to be done overnight!

There is a visible signature on the U.S. releases of Mindscape's WWII game Into the Eagle's Nest. Can't quite make it out, but it could start "Au"
