As I'm currently writing up the more in-depth analysis of the BGA geophysics education surveys I thought it would be good to share a version of the preliminary results in the Winter 2024 issue of the Geoscientist magazine (p 32) (a re-write of the A+G article) - thoughts/comments very welcome!

For those interested in the tectonics: this earthquake occurred near the Mendocino triple junction where 2 strike slip transform faults and a subduction zone meet: the Cascadia subduction zone to the north, the San Andreas fault to the south and the Mendocino transform fault to the west 🧪⚒️

Shallow strike slip M7.0 earthquake off the coast of Northern California. Strong shaking was felt near Eureka. 🧪⚒️ earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...

8 broadband and 10 nodes deployed across the Highland Boundary Fault in the last 4 days for the CATERAN deployment - not bad for a time of year when there's only 7hr 40mins between 🌅 and 🌄. Temperatures ranged from -4C to 12C! Massive thanks to @seismodave.bsky.social, Iona, Mark, Mike, and Andy!

Two deployed Certimus seismometers and my first ever node deployment - fieldwork in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is spooky in the fog - hares, deer, robin, red squirrel. Fun day helping @seismoamy.bsky.social, Karen & Alissa on their CATERAN project 🙂
