What an incredible week! Spent time with my postdoc supervisor Norbert Stock, attended the Nobel Lectures, co-organized a MOF symposium, attended the Nobel Reception & Student Nobel Night Cap, and co-organized a visit by Prof. Omar Yaghi. So happy to have met so many figures in MOF history!

Definitely the most surprised I've been upon acquiring a powder X-ray diffraction pattern, and then looking at the beatiful crystals in an electron microscope! 🔍💎

Using advanced electron crystallography techniques, researchers at Stockholm University have succeeded in determining the structure of the red pigment carmine. It turns out that the substance, used today in products such as candy and paint, has a complex porous structure. www.su.se/english/news...

Carmine is a red pigment used since antiquity to color textiles, in paintings by Rembrandt and Van Gogh, and today as a food coloring agent (E120). Very excited that @esvenssongrape.bsky.social finally reveals the crystal structure of carmine by #3DED! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
