As owners continue to try to outsource player development, there is legitimate concern about the future of the game.

Brady Tygart finishing his day with a strikeout of Nats SS Gavin Fien. This will likely be the last start of Tygart's rehab, but I could see him being activated and added to the Salem roster, where there's room.

In addition to the previously reported promotion of Anthony Eyanson, LHP Dylan Brown is being promoted from Salem to Greenville. Currently #60 in the
#SP60
, he'll be a big mover in the next update. 2.31 ERA, 32 K, 13 BB in 23.1 IP this year. '25 8th rd pick from ODU.

Of note, there would need to be a corresponding IL trip to get him back early. Can't just option someone. Alternatively, could add someone to the 40-man.

Feels like a good time to note that Jack Anderson pitched 3 innings today, so if the Red Sox need to go get an arm for tomorrow, it'll have to be Eduardo Rivera. He pitched 3 innings on Friday, so not as rested as you'd like but likely available.

Caught my eye: Tommy Kahnle threw for the second day in a row today, and third time in four days. 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K in that stretch so seems to be bouncing back well. Feels like an evaluation for an eventual call-up.

My 2 cents (thread): This isn't Breslow winning favor internally. The organization can't fire him yet, otherwise LITERALLY nobody will take the job as opposed to the ALMOST nobody last time. But it IS his team now, and the next 0.5 to 1.5 years is going to fall entirely on him.

This organization continues to fail miserably at messaging, internal and external. Incredible.

And I should note this isn't just an Arias thing. Sogard, Eaton, Campbell, Bleis, Alcantara, Baez all have had pinch hit opportunities. Last year, Worcester and Portland combined to pinch hit 4 times through the end of May.

Noteworthy after the Arias PH walk-off: Seems the Red Sox are trying to get upper minors guys more experience coming off the bench. Off days used to mean OFF (save for injuries). This was the 2nd time Arias pinch hit this month. In '25, Portland's 2nd pinch hitter was in June.

Looks like LHP Eduardo Rivera is moving up from Portland to Worcester.
#SP60
#33, Rivera was great in his first 2 starts: 16 K, 3 BB, 0.90 ERA. WooSox are desperate for SPs. Tolle's next start is likely in Boston. Bennett, Gamboa, and Sansone are their only healthy starters.

Per Ari Alexander, RHP Jack Anderson is being called up. 40-man move likely Casas to the 60-day IL. Samaniego probably gets gentleman's option back to AAA. Anderson is on normal rest & can give length. Tyler Uberstine is not eligible to come back yet, Tolle just pitched Sunday, so going off the 40.

Salem RHP Barrett Morgan (#SP60 #45) left his pro debut tonight after 4 batters after taking a line drive off the back of his pitching elbow. Was able to throw a warmup pitch to see if he could stay in, but it apparently sailed to the backstop. Hopefully nothing serious.

WooSox CF starts so far, incl. today: Nate Eaton 2 Allan Castro 2 Braiden Ward 1 (& would've yesterday) Kristian Campbell 1 This after Campbell exclusively played CF in camp, & Castro only the corners. Goal likely to rotate the 4 through all 3 spots, but still interesting.

Red Sox have announced that the White Sox have officially returned 2025 Rule 5 pick RHP Jedixson Paez.
@HunterNoll.bsky.social
had it first. My guess is that, like Angel Bastardo, he goes on a dev list and heads to Fort Myers for a bit.

Let's try something new. 3 takeaways from the farm tonight: 1) JustinGonzales showed off 70 raw, 70 arm. 2) Some nights in April it sucks to be a pitcher. 3) Blake Wehunt left in the 1st w/ an injury. Hopefully, it's nothing bad after a nice spring.

As Mike explained on the most recent episode of the podcast, we should learn today (7 days after he was DFA) whether RHP Angel Bastardo will return to the organization after spending last year rehabbing with Toronto as a Rule 5 pick.

Although I guess they could always bring in someone from the outside. But even with Coulombe's status up in the air, if he goes on IL, they'll need to recall someone who got optioned or add someone who got reassigned. Again, unless Sandoval or Crawford is a surprise active, they're at 26.

Unless I'm missing something, by optioning Tolle, Uberstine, and Kelly, & reassigning Kahnle, the Red Sox just set the opening day roster. Barring a surprise with an injured player, it looks like both Johan Oviedo and Connelly Early made the team, for now at least. I count 26 healthy guys.

Odd moment: After Gerardo Rodriguez reached on a single, O's manager spoke to the umpire. Rodriguez had entered on defense the previous inning. Had to come out for pinch runner Franklin Primera. Because a prospect showcase is definitely the time to enforce substitution rules. 🙄

Solid couple innings from Jake Bennett. Couple of strikeouts, both on fastballs (93.8 and 94.7). Gave up one single to Enrique Bradfield. Got help from a 4-6-3 DP (Alcantara to Arias to Encarnacion) after he had trouble with a weak comebacker. Juan Valera coming up next.

Boston’s top international free agent in the 2025 class, Soto had a strong DSL debut and arrives stateside this year. He is a natural athlete who should stick at shortstop despite being tall for the position at 6’3”, while the bat has the upside that may play anywhere on the field. ⬇️

Full house in the Red Sox dugout. Clearly brought more than the official roster. Also, roster notes, Patrick Galle and Ben Hansen were added, Cooper Adams removed. Also seems OF Anderson Fermin and IF Mason White may have been added.

The 33rd overall pick last July, Phillips is a big-righthander with a low three-quarters, almost sidearm, delivery angle. The former Tennessee Volunteer got a $2.5 million bonus after only 115 college innings. A 2nd-generation pro ballplayer, Phillips was a two-way player in JuCo. ⬇️

We enter the top 10 with the first of three ex-SEC hurlers taken in the 2025 draft. Eyanson got an overslot $1.75M bonus as a 3rd rounder out of LSU. He has a starter’s profile, with four pitches, an excellent slider, and a fastball that sits comfortably in the mid-90s and touches 98. ⬇️

In a draft where the Red Sox focused on high-upside arms, Godbout was the standout bat. Boston nabbed him with the 2nd-round comp pick they got when Nick Pivetta signed in SD. Godbout maintains excellent contact rates without sacrificing the quality of that contact. ⬇️

Of very interesting note yesterday: RHP Tyler Uberstine (#SP60 #13) threw 1 inning on 3 days' rest. With no clear long man candidate and both Crawford and Sandoval potentially close to being ready, he would make a lot of sense as the long man for 10-14 days.

Romero was Boston’s top pick in the 2022 draft and returned to health last season. Featuring some of the loudest contact in the system, he led the org in doubles (33) and RBI (76) while adding 17 homers between Portland and Worcester. ⬇️
