Historian, professor, tired.
I used to judge when undergrads would show up to class in pajamas. Now I’m just jealous.

I admit, one of my favorite genres of news are stories about MAGA’s manifest unfuckability.

MAGA singles are looking for love in Washington. It’s a challenge.
The politics of trying to find a partner in an overwhelmingly liberal city can be tricky: “My partner can’t think I’m a fascist. That’s crazy.”

That student email asking about office hours because they "want to talk about switching over to a history major" really gives you a reason to get up in the morning.

Just finished reading The Memory of '76 by
@michaelhattem.bsky.social
. Can't recommend it enough. I just loved it. The perfect book for right now. Go buy it, especially if you're not an academic historian but want an accessible read to help you understand this bizarre commemorative moment.

It's Week 10 of the semester. What does your attendance look like? My survey course of 91 students is generally holding steady with between 65-75 percent attendance. It's weird to me that I think I'm doing pretty well while 25-35 percent of the class is just consistently not showing up.

In spite of the headline, there is the pesky legal matter that neither billionaires or anybody else can “give” money to “pay troops” or anything else. However, a great compromise would be for billionaires to pay more money into the general treasury through “taxes.”

Perhaps we’re just misunderstanding what a “ballroom” is. Perhaps he just needs all that space to store the balls of congressional republicans.

Not to mention, I can't see this Ballroom quagmire ending any other way other than it ultimately killing him when the roof collapses as he clings to a golden replica of himself.

I literally spent months negotiating with the electric company and the city of Denver to get the permitting to have a single electrical wire rerouted out of a tree while President Marie Antoinette plows into THE WHITE HOUSE with a backhoe without any plan other than AI-generated opulence porn.

Taught the Declaration this week. I asked students to think about how the nation should commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary. Their responses were remarkably thoughtful. Nearly all suggested some form of sober, critical reflection. To my relief, not one said a UFC fight on the White House lawn

I can’t think of a better reason to trigger the 25th Amendment than the president posting a video of himself in a crown, flying a King Trump plane, and dumping shit on Americans.

Hey, nerds: What is this name? I really want it to be John Brown, with some kind of flourish at the end to indicate he was clerk of court. Is that a thing? How do you interpret the end of this name?
