89. The Hobbit special edition, illustrated by the fantastic @jemimacatlin.bsky.social (HarperCollins, 2013) - signed by her at Oxonmoot that year. The illustrations are perfect, I recommend this to anyone planing to read to their children. Still in print (standard edition), if you want one!

I'm a long-time fan of Jemina's illustrated Hobbit - it's different from a lot of the "standard" Tolkien artists, and works so well for the children's book it really is.

The magic ring is clearly a game-changer for Sam (and for Bilbo, let's be honest here). It adds an extra twist to the whole thing - Sam stays locked in through the daring escape first from Gollum & then from the Goblins. Also, kudos to @jemimacatlin.bsky.social for a near-Lovcraftian Gollum
