Trump just issued an executive order defunding public schools that accommodate transgender students. Teachers will be banned from referring to a transgender student by their desired name or pronouns. If they do not comply, their budgets can be defunded.

Medicaid didn't go offline because it was too "woke." School lunch programs weren't put at risk because of immigrants. Funding for cancer research wasn't on the chopping block because of trans people. All of this (and more) was jeopardized because of one person: Donald Trump.

The executive order speaks of transgender identity in sweeping and dismissive terms, and sets the stage for a policy that is more restrictive and punitive than the ban from Trump's first term.
