In the medieval ages people in Rome forgot what The Colosseum was used for. They thought it was a temple. Half of it had fallen down and people were living in the other half. The catacombs below the the structure were abandoned and collapsing. Yes, this is an OSR adventure.

Stonetop is the kind of game that makes me dream of an in person gaming group. I want to get together with friends, take turns masking dinner, and play Stonetop for years.

In the mesoamerican city of ChavĂn de Huantar, priests used hidden pipes to roar at visitors walking through the temple. A priest sat in a secret chamber behind a fierce stone statue and acted as their god's voice. Anyway, that's a freebie for your next OSR game.

Some guy on reddit: "This game sucks, I didn't have fun! Also, I didn't use any of the game's core mechanics." Sigh. Can you imagine if people played any other game like this? "Poker sucks! We never dealt out the card, it was so boring."

I got 2000s indie kid. Which considering that I have print copies of Poisin'd, Inspectres, Shab-Al-Hiri Roach and Dogs in the Vineyard seems like a pretty accurate description. The survey is completely unhinged tho.

That scene at the end of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back where Jay and Silent Bob travel around the country beating up people who wrote mean things about them on the internet, except it's the Bakers telling people that their PbtA opinions are wrong.

Explaining how to play TTRPGs that don't have initiate systems always feels like I'm explaining how to have a conversation to someone who has never talked to another human before. "How do you determine who goes first?" Um, you just take turns? Sometimes I go first, sometimes you do? Like adults?

Game pitch, from Science Fiance and myself: Apollo 47 with arguing. You are scientists in a fictional field of research, at a contentious conference panel. Get a stack of random scientific journals and quote random sections at each other, using them to prove your point. Play until exhausted.

This is such a boring way to approach story telling. If "number go up" is the only way you can convince of difficulty then you have a shit imagination.

The type of dice rolled is frequently the least important part of game design. People get really hung up on which dice a game uses and that's usually not a meaningful question.

We doing OSR stories? Last session I rolled for a random encounter and got, "Four lost Yodin sheep." No Yodin nearby, so the players slaughtered one for food. Next random encounter? "Six Yodin tribesmen." We're about to find out how that ends.

Some guy on Reddit doesn't believe that I've run RPGs for 150+ strangers and never had a problem. I'll tell you my secrets: 1) Don't run D&D. Problem players love D&D. I can't explain it, but it's true. 2) Run games at the queer meetup. Gay people are nicer that straight people, it's just a fact.

My biggest TTRPG pet peeve is when people can't distinguish their experience of a system with the text of the system. I don't care if your cookies are delicious, it's a goddamn brownie recipe. Don't get mad at me for pointing out that you're not reading the recipe

This story also a terrible look for Steve Jackson Games. Either SJGs signed a deal with Jay without understanding the contract obligations (stupid but okay) or they understand the obligations but decided they could lawyer the artists into submission (outright evil and it exactly what happened).

Honor your agreements—pay your freelancers. If you’re in a tight spot financially, or other parties cause money problems so that you’re suddenly low on funds, that’s unfortunately completely irrelevant. The freelancers don’t need to care about that. Pay them.

Newsom aspires to be the JD Vance of the Left. Newsom is the villain of a Disney Channel movie that nobody watched. Newsom is what you get when you put chalk and store-brand skim milk in a blender and hit the "don't quite blend" setting.
