Fun morning spent doing work prints from yesterday’s Welsh valleys session. This afternoon has been a few house jobs mixed in with editing the video of this trip and why I spent 6 hours driving yesterday to visit 2 rows of terraced houses in the Rhonda

Up and out the door not long after 6am, 3 hour drive to Wales, 2 hours photographing, 3 hour drive home, film processed

I am very excited for this week. For about 20 years I have wanted to go to a particular small village to see with my own eyes the location of my favourite photograph. This week I am doing it. Stay tuned to my Instagram and YouTube for updates on the trip and following darkroom sessions.

On and off for a while, I have been writing a book about darkroom printing. Aimed at first time printers and those who know the fundamentals and want to take their printing up a notch. “Light Paper Time” will hopefully be available by mid-March.

The atmosphere of the darkroom is important. It has to…have room to move around in while working. And it must have music. I don't think I could ever stay in the darkroom without it. It has been my best concert place. It's also where I meditate. I do a lot of things in the darkroom all at once.

Just got this book today. It’s been on my wish list for years and managed to get a copy for £5! Only had a chance to skim through so far but it’s already got me super excited on things to try. I’ll never get to have a darkroom lesson from Gene Smith. This book is as close as it gets

I’m thinking ahead to going to see the table tennis championships in Wembley next month. I don’t normally use long lenses and wondering if I go Minolta and zoom telephoto, or pen ft. I’m leaning towards the pen with or without the 3x converter.

I can’t remember the last time I printed a digital photo—let alone hung one. Today I framed a darkroom print from last night and added it to the wall alongside: Janine Weidel, Lewis Bush, Gene Smith, Brendan Barry, Simon Roberts + more. This is how photography should be seen.

Really productive printing session this evening. This was the first one I have live-streamed to YouTube and although I lost connection near the end, it worked well and was good to have some new faces tune in for brief windows of time and ask questions. Bring on the next one

Back from a week in the West Country. I bulk loaded a dozen canisters of 35mm and didn’t get anywhere near through all of them, but I did use my 4x5 more than I anticipated and looking forward to developing the results. Also used my Jaggle Tank and gifted the print to the tea rooms and gained 🍦
