What Pete Buttigieg said about trans athletes didn’t shock me because I lived under his mayorship for 7 years in South Bend, Indiana. Pete is gay, not queer. This is a painful lesson for many to learn that a man loving another man — does not mean that man will love other LGBTQ folks well.

There are things happening currently that no textbook or therapy training could have prepared me for. Instead, I look to the healers of the past for guidance of the future.
