Head of Support, Terry Smith, ORCID Community Specialist, Julie Toohey and Technical Support Analyst, Finn McCarthy, recently attended the recent Research Bazaar (ResBaz) Queensland at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay.

As ORCID Consortium Lead for Australia, the AAF welcomes the announcement of the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) PID Action Plan. ARC's PID Action Plan will increase the use of priority persistent identifiers, including ORCID iDs throughout ARC systems.

The AAF was pleased to attend the recent TERN 2025 Science Symposium, hosted at the State Library of Queensland. This informative event brought together researchers, students, government and industry to share updates on cutting-edge research, technological developments, collaborations and more.

The Age of Artificial Intelligence is rapidly accelerating, and now more than ever, it is crucial to know and trust the origin of information. Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) play a critical role in modern research by ensuring the provenance, discoverability, and traceability of scientific outputs.

@orcid.org is a persistent identifier (an ORCID iD) that researchers own and control, distinguishing them from every other researcher. The AAF leads the Australian ORCID Consortium. We support organisational members to understand the benefits of ORCID and offer local support.

AAF's Head of Technology, Russell Ianniello, recently attended AUSCERT. AUSCERT brings together technology and cyber security specialists from around Australia to discuss best practice and the latest security innovations to protect organisations in the research and education sector.

AAF is a part of the National Earth and Environmental Sciences Facilities Forum (#NEESFF) collective, which aims to maximise the use of Australia's extensive earth and environmental datasets to tackle issues such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, and environmental management.

It was a pleasure to meet with the @tern-aus.bsky.social team this week and discuss their current trust and identity solutions, based on AAF's Trust and Identity Framework for national research infrastructure.

The AAF welcomes @Margie Jantti as the newly appointed Deputy CEO. A highly experienced change agent with a track record for innovation, advocacy and digital transformation, she will be a key member of the leadership team and integral to advancing AAF's strategic plan.

Several of AAF's Brisbane team recently attended the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (#NCRIS) meetup, hosted by the Research Infrastructure Connected (#RIC) team, at the University of Queensland.

⚙️ AAF is partnering with fellow #NCRIS capabilities to develop a system-wide approach to access. As a part of AAF's Trust and Identity incubator activity, we have partnered with @access-nri.bsky.social to explore options to provide consistent user tracking and reporting.

AAF's Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) Engagement and Support Lead, Melroy Almeida, attended the recent Research Data Alliance Virtual Plenary (RDA VP) meeting which explored the theme of 'Data for emerging technologies'. RDA is a community-driven initiative established in 2013.
