My 8yo watched The Goonies for the first time. He loved it. It does a good job of keeping the action moving. It was fun to watch his reactions. “That’s dynamite!” when they found the candles probably my favorite.

A few years ago, renting a car for a week in the summer would run about $500. That’s for the car and all the insurance because I don’t have my own car insurance and since this is America if I got into an accident I’d go bankrupt. That same rental is now $860.

Today’s episode of the podcast Triple Click should win some kind of award. It’s an interesting, insightful discussion about Microsoft and the video game industry as a whole from people with valuable insights into the actual machinations. I recommend it to one and all.

I’m realizing now this is something of a false memory. My family got a Gateway computer for the Christmas of 1998 that had a dvd drive. My dad would show everyone how clean the pause was. So we definitely had DVDs. But The Matrix was the first one I got after I finally got a living room DVD player

After reading Kiki’s Delivery Service, Charlie and the chocolate factory and fantastic Mr Fox, big son and I are keeping the movie train rolling by reading howls moving castle. Only a chapter in but it’s fun how much the movie changed. Sophie has another sister who got cut from the movie!

Every time I open Bluesky, the app is like “check out this cool artist. You like this right?” And I’m like yeah I do. Any time I open Twitter (which is only when someone links to it) it’s like “check out this spicy drama. You like this right?” And I fucking don’t. I never have.

I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to my 8 year old. He’s seen the original movie many times so it was fun for him to point out the differences. Then we read Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. We stuck with it and finished it but there is nothing of value in that book. Literary whiplash.

I hope when valve announces the price of the Steam Machine they also announce the original intended price. Just so we can be even more angry at AI and the other economic factors responsible for this.
