I never get back pain. This sucks. Fortunately I've heard that it is definitely not a problem that gets more prevalent with age.

I pulled a muscle in my back on Sunday and today the pain is so bad I can barely stand up. The whole right side of my torso is spasming. It's tolerable as long as I'm lying flat on my back but I can't even sit in a chair. I'm very lucky I don't have to go anywhere this week.

I seem to finally be winding down. There is something relaxing about this place. I have a history of getting real writing done here. And being situated in the dead of a real winter somehow seems like it will help.

After (of course) pulling an all-nighter I passed out on the couch instead of going to bed. Thus far today I haven't managed to get off it. I need to get on a plane in a few hours.

Interesting that the benefits from my medication have gone away. I'm easily overstimulated again, I have trouble directing my attention, I can't sleep at night because I can't pause my brain (but I can during the day). I wonder if I need a higher dose or it was never the medication to begin with.

I was going to take one of my "working vacations" next week, but my boss gave me the "wink" that it can be more like a real one - i.e. take it easy. Apparently there's some excited chatter going on about one of my project proposals, and I may not be working on my current junk for much longer...

I guess I really needed the rest. That scans, at least, given the past few weeks. I won't complain.

I'm editing the two Emmetverse stories I have here and Walter White verbiage is slipping into Emmet's mouth. I have to be on guard against that... even though it's often eerily appropriate. It's good I can't credibly make Emmet sound like Tony Soprano or the first drafts would have been disastrous.

Okay, let's just shove this nothing day out of the way so I actually do things for my own sake tomorrow. I will not work. Sometimes I take vacation days and then I do work anyway, without telling anybody. Not this time. I am ahead of the curve. I'm on top of everything. No reason for it.

I have an outline for the chapter after the pirate one in my head. It takes place in the present day and involves an "unexpected houseguest" (Mina). Emmet shows what he's like when he feels under siege (nasty and amoral). Sully tries and fails to be his moral anchor, and ends up bonding with Mina.

You can't actually vent in front of people you love. They'll meet the little monster down in the cell. There was a good reason to put it there.

Luke, like Sully, survives to the end to tell his tale. But Luke's interpretation of events is very skewed in his favor. At the same time his memory is so creaky that he's not really lying. And since nobody in his universe knows any better, he becomes known as a kind of hero-storyteller.

It occurs to me that Victor (in particular his Fifth) would fly into a rage if he saw Maurice. An engineered mixing of two "incompatible" species would offend him personally and deeply, bordering on triggering existential panic. So there's that possible event waiting.
