The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history, with an estimated 20 million participants.

UPDATE ON THE CROWD SOURCING ON CROWD COUNTS FOR 10/18: As of 10/24 in the morning, we have public sources of 4,390,890. That’s from 1,327 events out of 2,785 events we currently know about. Which is less than 50%. If the median holds then that will be 5,557,290 participants. 🧵 #NoKings

As of right now, we have public sources that show at least 2,333,343 people protested across the country yesterday. If the averages hold, that will total 5,540,343 which would be the national record of the largest protester turn out in one day! But we would like to solidify that 🧵 #NoKings

I think the last protest of the No Kings Day just wrapped up in Hawaii. So far we’ve been able to crowdsource public sources with crowd counts with 1,918,280 protesters. We are obviously missing a lot. If the averages we have stay true then there would be 4,211,280 total for all the #NoKings 🧵

Right now, the group I’m working with who are only including counts from public sources has 831,296 participants. If the averages stay the same that would come out to 2+ million. The No Kings Coalition is going to announce 7 million as the estimate. The No Kings Coalition said over 5 🧵 #NoKings

I wish the No Kings coalition would have welcomed the We Count Project to the organizing table because they’re dropping the ball in crowd counting preparation & giving incorrect information about largest protest days. We asked them for 9 things & instead of engaging with us they left us out #NoKings

For the record: The most protests in one day in the USA was 4,470 in 2018 which was a student walk out. That was trump’s first term. I’m not sure where you’re getting your information but I got this from the Crowd Counting Consortium

Im committed to nonviolent, civil resistance not for moral reasons but for strategic reasons. Civil resistance isnt nice words&rose petals. It’s not voting. It doesnt aim to convince leaders. The state is always violent especially when resistance is effective. The NAVCO dataset proves it’s effective

Not everyone can travel to protest locations & that’s okay. Barriers like caregiving, disability, trauma, safety, or lack of transit keep many away. But people still want to be counted. And they can be anonymously counted for doing dispersed collective actions (public coordinated acts of solidarity)

The 50501 movement invites people in Puerto Rico, Guam & the U.S. Virgin Islands to join us on Saturday, October 18th for No Kings Day. The Crowd Counting Consortium (CCC) includes protest data from these U.S Territories. So, any protests in these territories will count towards our national totals!
