#Gamedev can be demoralizing when you only focus on the finish line and keep looking at how far away it is. Never forget to celebrate your small victories and enjoy the process. This weekend, I'm going to celebrate how far my Playdate prototype has come since my early tests.

I'm more or less halfway done with all the prototype work I wanted to test. This board is a work in progress, so tasks are constantly being added, deleted, or shuffled around. Hopefully, it will give people an idea of how much work is required to get a game project up and running.

Today I'll be adding footsteps 👣 to my Playdate prototype. It doesn't have any sound effects yet and I think this is a good place to start, since they're a major contributor to game feel.

I realized that I haven't shared some updates to the renderer for my Playdate prototype. Here's the masked texture support so I can have windows and railings. Also now I can add hidden doors. I just wrote the draft of the next devlog, about the 3D software renderer. I tried to keep it short, but there's so much to talk about... it ended up being a bit long 😅 Now I wonder if I went too technical, or not enough. I'll listen closely to the feedback on this one to decide on future devlogs.

Toda, I've been creating the "read file" UI for my Playdate prototype. This is a proof of concept to test font sizes, paragraph length, and the overall feel on a real device. Just because your UI is simple doesn't mean it shouldn't offer a good user experience.

Making a game is a rollercoaster of emotions. After testing all my gameplay ideas, I had a strong concept of a game with an overall plot, but no initial hook for the player. I started to worry. I've been meditating and thinking, and finally I've found a good hook. I'm feeling optimistic again.

I have enough cards with ideas for the Playdate prototype. This was the last one. Next week, I'll start creating a playable prototype of an early section of the game. With that I'll do some playtesting and see if I actually have a game worth doing, or not 😅

I finally finished fixing all the textures for the Playdate prototype. It's been a lot of work, but now they all look good in-game, readability was an issue, specially in dark areas.

Let's see if I can finish the texture work today... ✍️🤪
