Weird Clásico. So many long VAR checks and stoppages drained the life out of the game. And the offsides! Barça were there for a big beating but Real Madrid didn’t have the concentration or execution levels of the great teams. Flick won’t be too upset with that showing today.

Yesterday I saw a Now That’s What I Call Music CD(!) for the first time in about 20 years. These used to be a really big deal.

The biggest threat to Real Madrid here is that they offside themselves into frustration and concentration lapses. They’re up against a bad Barça with a retired goalkeeper, terrible defence and only 1 of their starting front 3. A serious team would win this 4 or 5-1 #ElClasico

A year ago 229 people died in the Valencia floods. According to El País, at least 72% of the deaths had happened before alerts were sent to phones. The regional president, Carlos Mazón (Partido Popular), is still in charge.

Real Madrid odds-on favourites today. Barça missing Raphinha, Olmo, Lewandowski means RM can be more aggressive up the pitch. During the week Lamine Yamal claimed that Madrid "rob and complain" - expect an early tone setter by a fella in white.

Very interesting that so few Spaniards live abroad, despite a housing market and an economy that often encourage them to do so. I wonder to what extent that's due to our infamously bad English skills, and how much is due to the classic "como en España no se vive en ninguna parte"
