Some years ago pineapple guava plants had a moment of popularity in my neighborhood. There’s only a couple of spoonfuls of edible flesh - soft, delicately tropical flavor - so mostly the fruit falls on the ground and rots. Not as widely appreciated as the free lemons and oranges, but still a treat

Right photo: A grove of redwoods which has regrown after being logged about 150 years ago. The left photo is of an ancient redwood tree growing just down the road. The property owner estimates it is 1200 to 1500 years old. Note the massive branching, which is typical in old-growth trees. #redwoods

Last weekend a Hoodwinker Sunfish/Mola tecta washed up on Doran beach. Rare in these parts, apparently. Taken Tuesday and it hadn’t started to stink yet. When a couple birds landed on it, it looked kinda springy. So it’s gotta be getting ripe by now. #marinelife #sunfish #sonomacoast #doranbeach
