#1, my favorite album this year! Patristic - Catechesis No doubt my album of the year. Intricate, motivic, and powerful songwriting. Guitars lead you through the emotions of the album perfectly, and the drums boil with intensity. The album flows so well and its highest moments hit me like a truck.

As 2025 draws to a close, we are honored to see “TSC” on AOTY lists alongside some incredible pieces of work. “LPWP” made us Deafheaven fans. Both Kauan and DWEF were on 3/4 lists. Our Kiwi buds in BALTTW released a beautiful slab of schizo prog death. What’s on yours?

#1, my favorite album this year! Patristic - Catechesis No doubt my album of the year. Intricate, motivic, and powerful songwriting. Guitars lead you through the emotions of the album perfectly, and the drums boil with intensity. The album flows so well and its highest moments hit me like a truck.

#2: Imperial Triumphant - Goldstar More compact than some of their previous work, but the variety in the songs and their always wild creativity makes it a great listening experience. I always come back to the fuzzed-out solo on Industry of Misery, a killer end to this album.

#3: Proscription - Desolate Divine This is where the ranking got tough, three awesome albums that all have something unique to provide. This album carries such power and weight, doesn't waste any time. The riffs are commanding and make you grit your teeth!

#4: Dormant Ordeal - Tooth and Nail Crushing, fast, melodic, tense, all of the above. Starting off the streak of blackened death metal in this list. Reminds me of early Ulcerate at times!

My #5 album of the year: Der Weg einer Freiheit - Innern Atmospheric and melodic, has plenty of variety from song to song. Fresh ideas that prevent it from melding together, and ideas that create special moments in every song!
