The Flamboyant Cuttlefish (Ascarosepion pfefferi) is one charismatic cuttlefish. They are known for their iconic purple and yellow pattern (although they are usually well camouflaged in the wild), they army crawl around the seafloor, and their eggs look like toy capsules. What's not to love?

The wunderpus!! This silly guy is one of the more unique octopods as it doesn’t really change color much. Stuck with a unique pattern, it still makes use out of it with camouflage! Along with its eyestalks that give it near 360 vision, and the ability to suffocate its prey, this guy earns his name!

We’re a little late for #worldwildlifeday but today we’re gonna look at the Dana octopus squid! The taningia danae is a 7 ft squid that has the largest photophores in the animal kingdom. About the size of a lemon. It was first filmed in its natural habitat in 2005, a few years after the giant squid!

The right whales are separated north and southern as their blubber is too thick for them to cross the equator! So they’re confined to their own hemispheres. #marinelife

Recently learned of crab eater seals which don’t even eat crabs surprisingly. They eat the usual squid and fish but a lot of their diet is krill! They do this kind of like whales, where they use their unique teeth to filter out the water to keep the krill inside their mouths! #seal #marinelife

Happy Wetlands Day! I just want to reflect on the time I’ve spent in the intertidal marshes in Chincoteague Bay, VA. A wonderful area with way more wildlife than I would’ve ever known about if it weren’t for the CB Field Station! Learned so much there and made plenty of friends and memories!

#addOcean I found these Janthina snails in Lauderdale yesterday. Such a neat creature! The bubbly secretions and light shell enable it to float on the surface of the ocean.

Time for #breakfast? The barramundi is a large, silver fish that changes sex as it grows. Once the fish reaches about 20 inches in length, it transitions from male to female.

Happy Tuesday, have a sea slug! Not a #nudibranch but a sacoglossan, Elysia crispata. A solar-powered sea slug, they take the chloroplasts from the algae they eat and line their body with them. Enabling them to produce energy through photosynthesis and go long periods without eating 🧪🦑🐙

First animal I’d like to do for really no particular reason, is the boxer crab! The Lybia tessellata, with other names such as Cheerleader/Pom Pom crab, are a smaller crustacean that has a unique style where it holds anemones for defense! Firefly squids (Watasenia scintillans) have an absolutely stunning display of bioluminescence. Their bodies are covered in blue and green photophores. They are also the only squid species known to have colour vision.
