I don't know if anyone noticed, but I migrated my PDS (Personal Data Server" from bsky.social to eurosky.social It's not going to make much of a difference, but my data is here in Europe, and I wanted to see how hard it is to migrate my account. It was a little effort, but is relatively transparent.

This is my daily routine commuting across town. If a pedestrian even looks at the road funny, I stop. It's the rules of the game.

Our little town of less than 20k people clears the center of parked cars for the annual festival. Couldn't it be this way permanently?

Can't help thinking that closing schools because it's hot shifts the problem from cooling one building to cooling a thousand homes

So, I immigrated to France from the US thirty years ago. At the time I was surprised by the mild climate in Brittany. It could be 15ºC and rainy in July like in January. I came from DC Blizzards and Heatwaves. Now I feel the heat waves are worse here. We aren't ready for 40ºC for a whole week.

I feel like we are living something absolutely historic, but completely predictable at the same time.

I didn't have the foresight to invest in fan technology. Now they are nowhere to be found.

This is only anecdotal, but part of a trend nonetheless. OTD 3 years ago I happened to have screenshotted my weather app, and here we are. That said, it was around 14º only last week, so not only are things warming, we're getting more weather whiplash.

Here's to wonderful starts. Hard to believe it's been 13 years (NOTD) since the training wheels fell off.

Get ready for weather whiplash

The best time to expand our bike infrastructure was decades ago. The second best time is now.

This weekend, I had to go to the grocery store to buy, milk, butter, eggs, pasta but was short on time. Our local market is 2 km from our house. There and back by bike took 20 minutes. Not quite a 15 minute city, but not too far off. The same by car and supermarket would have been more than an hour.

This is my jam.

Just do it! A Brest-Bratislava by train should be a viable option, not a logistical and economic impossibility. The railways should be the default way of travel across European nations, but we have to commit and invest to make it work.

This may support my theory that you don't necessarily need to match fight times on Ireland to UK sail and rail (or even to Ireland to France/BE/NL etc), to make the trips attractive to more people, but the connections need to be a lot less frictionless:

A longtail cargo bike can be an ideal touring companion for the family. There's room to cary housing and kitchen gear as well as lightening the load for kids to pedal unencumbered. But it has one Achilles' heel...

So this is where I've biked over the last 10 years. About 90000km of recorded rides (more undocumented). That's about 15-17 tons of CO2e saved by not using a car. Now I just wish I had more time to draw more lines in more places. The EU is beautiful by bike.
