For the first time since childhood I somehow slept from 9:30pm last night until 6am this morning without waking. I don’t know how it happened and I know it won’t happen again. I’m putting it down as a personal Christmas miracle.

Me and my teen upstairs opening his presents, baby girl downstairs dancing, clapping and running around, old man shouting up, when are we doing mine… Christmas Eve, love it.

The day we went to the place that had no one, heated tomato soup in the van and sat in silence by the water. January can feel long but it also has these moments. Peaceful, calm memories.

Happy Winter Solstice.

New routine is get out of bed and immediately do thirty pushups followed by core exercises. Non-negotiable, every day irrespective of insomnia state. Takes the heart from the mind. Works wonders.

Out before it all begins and the trails are flooded with everyone doing the same thing at the same time. These final few days are a sanctuary.

You’ll have to take my word for it (again) but two moments ago a gigantic stunner of a fox walked right into this frame.

It wasn’t an escape. It was heading off to those darkest corners and showing how real they were. #writing

First walk out today in what feels like weeks. Went by my old home which looked just the same, the alleyway that was once my quiet place when I smoked and needed an out, the trail that now has so much more character. Love this place, it’ll always be home.

In time, the rain will end, the wind will calm and we’ll all be out gallivanting again. Gratitude for Zwift, good music and Ryan Condon on YT. #cycling

Loving all of the Christmas tree photos. Not got one into the house just yet. Last year it coincided with Darragh and a grim two day power cut so feels a bit like tempting fate.
