Gasoline cars hit the market in the 1880s. You couldn't drive a gasoline car from San Fran to Seattle until between 1915 & 1920 (35 to 40 years later). And even then, coverage was spotty and you might need to buy gas from a hardware store not a gas station. This kind of FUD about hydrogen is dumb.

This framing is far from relevant, it should have a context warning. If the implication is to cause pause when considering #hydrogen for energy, then the implication is off base. If we switched from a fossil fuel based economy to a hydrogen based economy human GHGs would drop approx 98% globally.

Anything written by CleanTechnica is 'fake news'. Anything written by Barnard about hydrogen on CT is next level garbage. This hydrogen pipeline has really got Barnard bothered. How dare 60 sovereign countries including the G8 draft comprehensive hydrogen policies against Barnard's wishes.

China is structurally dependent on coal for decades to come. China burns 40% more coal the entire rest of the world combined. China has added more coal capacity then ROW combined for over 10 straight yrs and continues to add more than ROW combined. Permitting of new coal plants continues in 2026.

These are the nuts holding back progress on reducing emissions. All they do is allow fossil fuels to burn unabated. Recognizing we are all dependent on fossil fuels is the first step to reducing dependency. Just like alcoholism. Carrying protest signs & singing kumbaya is not a solution.

While there are several examples of making hydrogen with water instead of fossil fuels, there is no example of making batteries without coal. Coal is a critical part of the battery supply chain.

Support batteries if you like, no problem. But you don't get to say they don't require "burning" anything. The battery supply chain has a critical dependency on burning coal. So, no burning coal, no batteries. It's that simple.

Another one for the people concerned about water usage to make hydrogen. It's probably the zaniest of all the anti-h2 arguments. Hydrogen means "water creator". So we can use poop, pee, animal farm fecal & urine waste, brackish water, salt water, and contaminated water to "make" drinking water.
