In a world increasingly shaped by AI, Dutch singer-songwriter PJM Bond has made it his mission to reject it and embrace lifeâs imperfections â especially in his music. âWhatâs the point of listening to immaculately perfect pop songs?â he questioned. âBy allowing mistakes to happen and by not focusing on perfection, I wanted my album to celebrate the aspect of humanity in music.â

REVIEW â âOrange Islandâ by Vanessa Frances
In the world weâre living in today, we can all relate to the feeling of doom we get from watching the news. Weâre surrounded by endless reports of the devastation felt around the world, and then we turn to social media, drowning out the noise with our favorite influencer's newest vacation vlog. We watch the celebrities, influencers, and even politicians living in luxury, knowing we will never be able to afford any semblance of that lifestyle.

REVIEW â âShield of Sparrowsâ by Devney Perry
Over the course of this decade, the subgenre of âromantasyâ has soared in popularity. Specifically on BookTok, novels that fall under the fantasy-romance hybrid category are pushed to the forefront of viewersâ feeds and social media doomscrolling. Despite the mainstream quality of romantasy, the style itself is uniquely beloved by indie writers and young artists. For example, A Court of Thorns and Roses…

In conversation with Kenny Bieber: a document of soundÂ
Many would characterize the path to photography as a passion, or even a calling. But for New Jersey-based photographer Kenny Bieber, his introduction to the visual arts could be described as a requirement. Bieber first began his journey as a professional photographer while finishing up his degree in journalism and media studies. Like most college kids, he found himself in need of just a few more credits in order to graduate.

In conversation with Sam Slick: music at the center of life
Before becoming a father, Sam Slick had already built a family of his own through music. Over the years, the folk-rock musician surrounded himself with a close-knit band whose chemistry and collaboration helped shape the sound of his newest album, After the Dream, Before the Memories, turning years of songwriting into his most fully realized project yet. Slickâs newest project, released in March of this year, introduced a bigger sound to his fanbase, one shaped by years of playing alongside the same group of musicians.

REVIEW â âStill Lifeâ by Future Teens
Future Teens, a bummer-pop band from Boston, Massachusetts, just dropped their newest album titled Still Life. The band's fourth album premiered on May 8 with Take This To Heart Records. With a 35-minute run time, Still Life exemplifies both similarities to their previous discography, as well as a newly settled sound, focusing on drum-driven songs laced with guitar riffs and synths.

In conversation with Sophie Riley: self-publishing and character-driven storytelling in âItâs Not the End of the Worldâ
Writers get inspiration from a variety of sources: their personal lives, the news, movies, television shows, or even writing prompts. Sophie Riley got hers from a 2014 Tumblr post. âI had saved that so long ago and just put it in my brain,â Riley said. âI just got this idea for a book about the end of the world, but where a mother and a daughter are still going to have their mother-daughter issues and where a teenage girl is just still going to be a teenage girl.

In conversation with Mike Chick: turning mistakes into meaning
It all started with a gifted cakeâand a misspelling. A small yet thoughtful gesture from family after Yawn Mower released their album To Each Their Own Coat. But instead of âcongrats,â the icing read âcongarts.â It was the kind of mistake most people would get mad over and soon try to forget, but Mike Chick didnât. âI immediately knew it was going to be the next LP,â he said.

Claire Martine's latest single is the second one released in promo for her upcoming EP, "Better safe than sorry." Read our thoughts here:
loading . . .
REVIEW â âGot it wrongâ by Claire Martine
On April 28, Claire Martine released her newest dreamy single, âGot it wrong.â Produced by Alejandro FlĂłrez and Liam Hartnett, "Got it wrong" uses wistful, lo-fi-pop-adjacent beats accompanied by beautiful bass and guitar playing to describe how hard it can be to express yourself at the right times. Lyrics like, "Sorry about last night / rolled your ankle / but Iâm the one who cried" encompass this idea perfectly, as Martine details how raw emotion that you're trying to keep down can come out at the wrong times, because of suppression.

âI didnât know that I wanted to be a writer,â Julia Esperanza admitted with a smile. âIf anything, I tried my hardest to avoid it.â Born and raised in South Florida, Esperanza grew up writing stories to go along with the pages in her coloring books, letting her imagination run wild with ideas. REVIEW- Enjambreâs âDaños Luzâ blends their vintage-rock roots to make atmospheric melodies
Known for their poetic, though-provoking, and introspective lyrics, Mexican alternative rock band Enjambre released their ninth album, Daños Luz, on March 12. The album is structured to guide listeners on a journey through Enjambre's past, present, and future. The album opens with the ticking keys of the piano and the distorted voice of Luis Humberto Navejas, Enjambre's lead singer, on "Desfaces." This is until the drums and guitar kick in, creating a very nostalgic sound.

REVIEW â Marc E. Bassy is true to form on âNO HArD FEELINGSÂ (Deluxe)â
Consistent. Thatâs the best word to describe Marc E. Bassy. The contemporary R&B artist teamed up with producer and songwriter Nic Nac last summer for his sixth studio album, NO HArD FEELINGS, and delighted fans in February with the deluxe version. The 15-track album is noticeably short at just 32 minutes, teasing listeners with groovy one-to-two-minute songs. Bassy is notably candid and mature on the back half of the project but maintains his signature sound alongside features from long-time collaborators and fellow Bay Area natives, G-Eazy and Bobby Brackins.

Kyra Soto is no stranger to performing. Where some shy in front of the lens of a camera or the idea of being perceived, she thrives. âI grew up within the arts, and I've always just loved being in front of cameras.â She immediately recounts the Nickelodeon show iCarly, which served as the OG average-person-to-influencer pipe dream. âI loved that show and messing around in front of a camera, and always pretended to be making, like, iKyras⊠I think thatâs what introduced me .â Her parentsâ support was thus shown through Sotoâs mother making her audition for an arts middle school, an act that Soto at the time remained apprehensive about.

In conversation with Shrike and Thorn Productions: how a passion for creativity fosters community
Macedonia Alexis and Evan Sims were raised with stories. Growing up with access to all kinds of media, storytelling was infused into the very marrow of their existence. âWe both watched the classic Pixar and DreamWorks movies growing up. Emperorâs New Groove definitely played a part in forming our sense of humor,â Sims explained, âI really enjoy how film ties a lot of art forms together.â Film, music, and literature were not only childhood hobbies but also points of inspiration for their creative lives.

In conversation with Ren Genevieve: everything she never said
When Ren Genevieve was working on her debut single for her upcoming EP, Everything I Never Said, one motto kept repeating in her head: âIf you think this song is about you, it probably is.â That sentiment became the backbone of the projectâs lead single and namesake, âEverything I Never Said,â released on January 16. âFor me, songwriting is sometimes a moment to say something I might not actually say to someone,â Genevieve explained.

In conversation with Nectarine Girl: hyperfixations and âGood Excuses for Lazinessâ
Nectarine Girlâs name stems from a two-week hyperfixation on her namesake fruit, which gradually grew to represent the sensitive girl she is on the inside. If she had to change her name to her current obsession, though, she says it would be Orchids. âIâm excited about the challenge,â she says, the smile evident in her voice. âI love keeping plants, so Iâm excited to have so many orchids in my house.â

In conversation with James Maddock: unraveling the mystery of songwriting
British-born singer/songwriter James Maddock is renowned for his rousing live performances, deeply emotional music, and his innate ability to connect with audiences everywhere. For Maddock, his passion for music began at a very young age, under the wing of his grandfather, a semi-professional ukulele player. Learning to play the instrument himself, Maddock soon understood the greater musical possibilities open to him.

Kelsey Blackstoneâs relationship with music has spanned her entire life. We spoke with Asbury Park-based artist Kiersten Blue about her latest EP and what it means to have a musical drive:

In conversation with Kiersten Blue: looking at the âGirl In The Mirrorâ
On the outside, Kiersten Blue is exactly what her name suggests: blue hair, melancholic lyrics, and even a single appropriately titled âBlue.â On the inside, though, Kiersten is overcome by an unmistakable drive and love for creating music. The singer is relatively new to the music world, having started during the COVID-19 pandemic almost six years ago. Inspired to pick up guitar again, Kiersten started writing music and amassed over 100 songs within her first year.

Five Underground Albums That Got Me Through 2025
I had more than one person tell me that 2025 was a tough year for them. Whether it be socially, politically, or just several external factors that were weighing on their mind, it was not an easy year to separate the art from whatever else was going on in the world. It also doesnât help that popular music did not reflect this.Â

We read "Canticle" by Janet Rich Edwards. See why we give it a glowing 5 stars:

REVIEW â âCanticleâ by Janet Rich Edwards
We are living in a period swamped with literary fiction. The stocked shelves of bookstores and BookTok doom-scrolling all point to its dominance, specifically in the cult of superiority fostered through its dry intellectual engagement riddled with irony and realism. To be a cool and well-rounded reader is to be a reader of âlit fic.â Canticle by Janet Rich Edwards is a breath of fresh air in this monogamous popular book culture.

In conversation with Billy CarriĂłn: pushing toward âHigher Standardsâ
Billy CarriĂłn grew up in a family of singers. With his father being a salsa singer, CarriĂłn was constantly surrounded by music; not just Latin, but a little bit of everything. This allowed him to become well-rounded, to fall in love with Jazz through passion. Jazz holds a universal conversation on the stage and is a place where CarriĂłn feels the most understood.

In conversation with Chris Messineo: bringing âThe Strange Darkâ to light
Before movies ever felt like a career path, they felt like a kind of magic for Chris Messineo. Growing up, Messineo believed the people who made films lived somewhere far away on the West Coast, in a world that felt unreachable. It wasnât until his twenties, as independent film began flourishing outside of Hollywood, that filmmaking started to feel like a possibility.

Ron Gallo never set out to be a musician. In fact, picking up a guitar came without much intention at all. âI canât say there really was much of a passion to play guitar,â he admits. âI kind of just thought it was a thing I should have.â âI think the thing I was most intrigued by was writing songs,â he continued.
