The government has quickly sought another delay in the Abrego Garcia case. The district court said now. Then to the appellate court. Their denial came with an incredibly strong rebuke.

Tuesday at Federal District Court, Greenbelt, MD. More than 100 supporters of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. This is what democracy looks like.

U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) says he's flying to El Salvador Wednesday to check on Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a legal resident of Maryland. Van Hollen says Abrego Garcia was abducted and unlawfully deported. Van Hollen hopes to visit Abrego Garcia, and talk with officials there about his release.

Two weeks ahead of depositions and paperwork in the case of Kilman Arbrego Garcia. He's still held in El Salvador's brutal CECOT prison. Federal Judge Paula Xinis told government lawyers that Oval office remarks aren't evidence, "nor is the quip about smuggling someone into the United States."

The government is under court order to "take all steps...as soon as possible" for the return of Abrego Garcia. To abide by the Supreme Court's order, the US should at least request Garcia's release, his lawyer says. The government isn't even following its own DHS directives to fix the error.

Abrego Garcia's lawyers today pushed back hard against the government's inaction. El Salvador has a contractual agreement, they said in a writte argument. The US has reinforced the arrangement, sending more prisoners there about 10 days ago. The government has done NOTHING to fix its mistake.

Update: Government provided NO status or locations for Abrego Garcia for the last 2 days. For at least the last 3 times, just prior to this hearing new government lawyers have filed paperwork to appear in court.

4/13/25: The U.S. Government said today (in a court filing) that it will not produce documents about Abrego Garcia's confinement and possible release. It claims such documents are sensitive, classified, or privileged as attorney-client documents or state secrets.

4/13/25: Daily Update: The US Government provided NO additional information beyond its 4/12/25 update. The next hearing is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2025 in Greenbelt, D.

4/12/25: based on official reporting from our Embassy in San Salvador Abrego Garcia is currently being held in the Terrorism Confinement Center in El Salvador. He is alive and secure in that facility. He is detained pursuant to the sovereign, domestic authority of El Salvador.

On 4/11/25 Federal Judge Xinis ordered the US Government to provide daily updates on the following information: 1) the whereabouts and status of Kilmar Abrego Garcia; 2) What steps has the US government taken to facilitate his return to the US; 3) What steps will the government take.

Judge Xinis has granted an extension in response to the government's request. Extension granted until 11:30 am today.

The govornament asks for more time; it has filed a motion seeking until April 15 for itself next court argument. Mr. Garcia's lawyers respond that the government has already had more time than Mr. Garcia had before he was shipped off. Hearing in Greenbelt 1 pm today.

World famous legal scholars have filed a "friend of the court" brief opposing the government's stance on Abrego Garcia. They argue: "There is no logical stopping point to the government’s dangerous argument," including deporting American citizens the President simply doesn't like.

Trump has expressed "glee and delight at the torture that the government of El Salvador inflicts upon its detainees" (brief of Garcia in Federal court)

From Garcia ruling 4/6: "The risk of harm shocks the conscience." Garcia has been "housed without regard for protecting (him) from harm at the hands of the gangs."

This just in.... in re: Kilmar Abrego Garcia: motion to stay is DENIED. Government is still under court order to return Garcia by 11:59pm Monday.

DOJ lawyer. Judge, seeking an answer, "I don't want to hear that the government has done nothing and you're all out of options" (that got a laugh in the courtroom) Judge: "You've got nothing. No facts, no authority to cite." "My clients understand that the lack of evidence speaks for itself."

From the Department of Justice attorney: "The facts are not contested; Mr. Garcia should not have been removed." When asked by the judge what authority the US government acted on, the DOJ lawyer said the answer will be frustrating. "I'm also frustrated," to have no answer.

From this afternoon's hearing on Kilmar Garcia: the judge ordered him returned to the US no later than 11:59 pm Monday, Apr 7.
