The #Roman fortress of Inchtuthill, Perth, was founded in the Agricola campaign (82-83AD) by the XX Valeria Victrix, the legion that founded Trimontium. 875,400 nails were found there. Inchtuthill was never built over & so provides the only complete plan of a legionary fortress in the Roman empire.

The legionary fortress walls of Eboracum can still be seen incorporated into the later medieval city walls of York. Just east of Monk Bar there is a good stretch including an interval and corner tower. Built in the AD70’s the fort was rebuilt in stone by the 9th legion.
