Stealing food stamp benefits from recipients is a huge problem due largely to EBT cards lacking microchips. That’s why the federal government used to reimburse people. But the new policy ends that, in essence telling families: Tough luck. READ

i think the executive orders directing agencies to end energy efficiency regulations and open up more land to drilling and mining is so indicative of the character of the american right — in its view everything, whether people or our larger environment, is something to be exploited and dominated

Literally none of this is surprising for people who took Trump at his word. But now we’re in this situation because enough people were convinced to “take him seriously but not literally”

Our institutions are comically ill-equipped for handling the moment in which we find ourselves. And it will only get worse before it gets better

Hey--if you are over 130 you might know me, I used to cover poverty for The Nation & Bill Moyers. I'm an antipoverty advocate now, and following the work of reporters & others focused on poverty will be more critical than ever. If you agree check out this starter pack.

Call me crazy, but I don’t think we should let someone lead our intelligence agencies if they can’t even get TSA pre-check

In a normal country with a normal president, Pam Bondi would be an insane AG nomination. But because she’s not a child trafficker like Gaetz, she’ll get unanimous GOP support

I fear that the stupider politics get, the even more cynical people will become. And so on and so forth

Genuinely curious how Trump’s treasury secretary—regardless of who it is—plans to both implement insane tariffs and keep Wall Street from revolting. Seems an impossible task—and maybe why it’s taken so long to land on a nominee

Looking forward to posting more on here, particularly as folks on our side of the aisle figure out how to regain the trust of voters and deliver for our constituents. Resharing my piece in CalMatters last year that seems as relevant now as it was then

California will fail to address poverty as long as false narratives shape the policies
The false narratives that describe people in poverty often don't reflect research or reality, and further harm them by stalling solutions.

The best part of Twitter was that it had a critical mass of folks such that it didn’t become a total echo chamber. Now that that’s no longer the case, hoping that can be recreated here
