Granada, Nicaragua, (now-suspended) poetry festival/Carnival. Beautiful place coping with terrible government, poverty, floods . . . & the whole town celebrated. Each year, mock-burial of something awful: Ignorance, Greed, etc. My year (2012)we buried Desamor ("lovelessness").

Friendship as good fortune. Mark Strand was at my house when author/editor's copies of the anthology HISTORY OF HEARTBREAK arrived. In one copy, all the pages were blank. Make it an album of friends, Mark said, and made the first entry in a book I've come to treasure.
