I spoke to several of my Iranian students. They have not been able to reach their family members for 3 days now since the country disconnected the Internet and landlines also are not working. We will see what happens to this country (and others).

We have many friends and collaborators in Kyiv. Thinking of all who have begun the new academic semester at the universities there, including KSE. We had 6 exchange students from KSE studying @umassamherst.bsky.social this past Fall, who are now back in Kyiv. I do my best to stay in touch.

Relieved to hear back from my collaborator in Lviv, who is OK. She said they're learning to distinguish betw. missile types. She sent me a lovely video of carolers in her home in darkness, singing and presenting a silhouette manger scene play on a computer screen - fascinating. She also sent hugs.
