To me it’s clear. VAR didn’t overturn Atwell’s mistake on the Amad penalty, because it would have meant disallowing Bournemouth’s goal and awarding United a Penalty. Either bottled it, or thought of the two scenarios. Justifying not giving United a penalty was an easier sell.
