It’s really messed there’s no Mariners today because I want to hide from the world in baseball excitement/ anxiety and not see anything else.

The Mariners' one-game playoff with the California Angels in 1995 happened on the same day the OJ Simpson verdict was reached?! I....what? The verdict was announced the next day, Game 1 of the division series with the Yankees, but I really don't have any connection in my head between those events?

Sports results in and of themselves don't matter. But when a historically bad team does well, it reminds us that better things are always possible. And that reminder matters!

The day before the playoffs in 1997 I was in the hospital with severe stomach pain. They did all sorts of tests and couldn’t find anything wrong and I was just like, I think this is from watching the Mariners bullpen all season? And it’s going into the playoffs? So, literally, I can’t handle this!
