Deploy social tariff for electricity to help struggling households, urges Oxford policy brief
A new policy brief from the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford argues that UK electricity bills should be fairer, not just lower. It will urge the Government to implement a social electricity tariff to help low-income households struggling with their bills while the UK’s grid and energy systems are upgraded. A social tariff would make electricity more affordable for vulnerable households, either via a lower unit rate, or a discount on the total bill.

New: UK electricity bills must be fairer, not just lower. Households already face big differences in what they pay 👉by region, payment type & housing quality. With new reforms coming, low-income homes could be hit hardest unless protections are introduced.
