The level to which my friends and family have rallied to support me after my mother's death fills me with equal parts hope for the future and a deep sadness at the way our society continues profiting off our isolation. We belong together, and anything designed to separate us should be destroyed.

Sitting here, waiting for my mother's body to finally let her rest, watching the world descending further into cruelty and madness, and finding joy in my father finally learning how to pet a kitten. When you find joy amidst the storm, it doesn't matter how small it seems. A light is a light.
