An event to discuss extreme heat was scheduled to take place at the London School of Economics today. It's been cancelled because of the extreme heat.

My new car mats arrived yesterday so I cleaned out the car and applied them. I’m now contemplating the drama of hosing the car. Involves parking on the lane - which I’m not allowed to do. The self appointed guardian of said lane might object. I have to hose scrub and re hose very fast.

A delightful outing yesterday to Wallington Hall. One Grandma, one young Aussie neighbour , 2 babies, 2 pushchairs and an excited Grandad hiring a Tramper for the day. Babies loved the Tramper especially when G took the outdoor cafe by storm ram raiding several tables. In Hare mode ..

Managed to locate my tiny hand held holiday fan at 2 am and direct it at the back of neck region. TT watched without moving anything bar the eyes even when the light was on. It’s hotter here than it was at the other place (seasidey) though the winter duvet there was not our friend.

I was out watering my hanging basket at five am. Not the best of nights. My gastrics are disordered.

The world may be a dystopian nightmare, but I got to share some oatmeal with this cute green gecko this morning, so I’m gonna let that be my happy place for a while.

The dreaded lurgy is catching up with me faster than I can keep up. Listening to Moon Tiger all night while dozing. Frequent rewinding and realising TT was wide awake and staring at me. My guts were churning and gurgling audibly. Her eyes travelled from my mid section to my eyes in some alarm.

Finally breakfast … she’s already stolen a strawberry.

Tiny Ted has an air of resignation about her. She has drawn in her paws though. She is doing the final ten minutes of “relaxation” before the shift starts. She prefers the solace of a sitting room to herself but would rather the Bebe had the sitting room and she and I went home.

I slide downstairs to fetch coffee hoping to avoid being seen. There’s wall to wall football on. How can this be? Bebe is stuffing a banana while dancing on the sofa and yells triumphantly at me. My cover is blown. I am back in bed for coffee and a square of dark chocolate.

We are in the other place. Tiny Ted and I are both awake. We hear the stertorous breathing of the Bebe outside our room. She is in the dressing table drawers on the landing, selecting her cosmetics for the day. I read on. TT splays her legs out and battens down the hatches.

Always loads of police cars and ambulances racing through the village but it’s been wild this morning.

Observations on Hadrians Wall path walkers. I met ten pairs of walkers. Everyone said good morning. No exceptions. The sunshine. Mixed couples smile. Men in pairs engaged me or tried to. I was listening to a podcast so not too sure but friendly invites to carry their bags and the like.

The start of the water cooler meet-up. A semi riot ensued with every sheep and lamb appearing at a fast trot. Whatever the news was, it was worth hearing.

My lovely videos of lambs using bales as back scratchers, and their feet to pull out loose straw to eat , then charging about the fields inciting riots won’t load. “Unexpected character”. They may well be right :) #lambwatch

Hertfordshire Zoo is celebrating birth of a second pair of elephant shrew pups. The same parents produced their first pair in March.

I’m home and the cottage is littered with whacking great black spiders. How is this even possible ? I only left two days ago albeit in the early hours.

Hundreds of strangers in Belfast working together. Doing shopping, providing accommodation, driving kids to school, people to hospital appointments. Have just been told of a woman close to us who hasn't left her house since Monday so we'll be sorting her out today and getting her anything she needs

belfast resident here, yesterday while waiting at the dentist the receptionist was making calls checking in with POC who work there to see if they or their families need somewhere to stay, and i carried that warm, glowing feeling with me while i got a tooth drilled
