Back in grey cold NL. What a privilege that the women I met and know shared their spaces and lives so generously with me. I was invited to the most inspiring spaces which showed me how positive change can look like. Something desperately needed in the times we live.

Yesterday I had the amazing opportunity to get to know two communities in and close to Cali. Thanks again for inviting me. Both communities are extremely inspiring and show us how to create communities of care, something I hope I will be able to explore more in the future with colleagues in Cali.

That international development & cooperation is mistaken as charity by leading political figures should worry all of us. Shutting down USAID will have security consequences. E.g. no screening of people travelling by air from countries with Ebola outbreaks etc.

What an amazing workshop we had today in Medellin. It was great to be together again, share our achievements of the last years and think about future work on the role of women in urban transformations. Thanks to everyone who participated and I am looking forward working with you in the future!

Watching ‘when they see us’ episode 2 has a part in which Trump makes stupid remarks. Racist of course and just to make trouble. If we only would have known how dumb so many of the US population are voting years later and make him their hero who continues to destroy what he can.

First time in Cali. I cannot explain why yet but I immediately liked the city upon arrival. Rarely have that. After 15 years coming to Colombia it did surprise me how different Cali is and yet so familiar. Looking forward to explore more and build a network here. Give me a shout if you are around!

Finishing a book manuscript of a pretty innovative co-authored book which I will tell you more about soon. However we do publish it in Spanish and English. This helped me once again realising how working in different languages really creates a greater sensitivity of the possible violence of words...

Unpopular opinion but I absolutely hate fireworks. No idea why people think it is fun to create artificial warzone sound. Why do the Dutch do this all night long for days? Apart from the environmental issues the constant noise of fireworks is unhealthy & distresses animals & humans alike. Just stop!

We have not been taken serious so far. While we appreciate that current reduction in cuts care more for students, they do not change the situation in universities. Research money is still being cut which means NL higher education will become irrelevant in research and innovation.

So yet another grant rejection. It has become increasingly difficult to do research in NL and Europe, especially for those not doing quant AI research. It seems nothing else is important anymore or deserves being funded & with the government cuts I am wondering if I even can continue my research.

I am so tired to have to justify to positivists and quant people why I am working with small groups of people as a participatory action researcher and do not do surveys. What is the biggest challenge of writing grants? Restricted word count boxes!!!!

My two most common feelings are being tired and anger which is mostly due to structural and systemic problems. Actually mostly because of the decision making of men who really should not make decisions or have any power in the first place. That sums it up on a broad level I think

Difficult to stay positive in front of my students looking at election results almost everywhere & how the climate crisis is ignored. EU election results not surprising but it is still shocking to me seeing how we learnt apparently nothing from the mistakes of my grandparents 🤷‍♀️

#MorningRun in Utrecht. In summer this city is even more beautiful. Still amazed about the changes the city did to make life more green, bike friendly & liveable. It makes such a difference that I am surprised other countries/ cities don’t follow the example. E.g. London😉

Yesterday’s run was with sun at the beach of #HolyIsland. And then I finally got to see those cuties #puffins!!!! Going back home today after week of presenting research, writing and sharing and developing future ideas… 🤓
