Today a lone Fieldfare was surprisingly tolerant in a Hawthorn by the W lake viewpoint along the Mile Road. I’m sure this is the same bird that we saw on a Glamorgan Bird Club trip last week, and it has laid claim to that Hawthorn for its berries.

Distant birds from this morning's circuit of Cardiff Bay in glorious weather: 21 Redshank on the outer Barrage mud & well over 50 Shelduck on the mud bank further out, plus a Goldeneye with the Tufties & friends behind the Ice Rink. The 2 Common scoters were also still there.

Enjoyed catching up with the Great Orme Shorelark this afternoon. Initially elusive it eventually dropped in to feed for a good spell in the usual spot near the cairn. Only the second one I’ve seen in Wales. Felt pretty fresh in the wind up there today!

Couple of hours wait were rewarded when the female Smew swam into view at Llangorse Lake, just before dusk. Also present were six Scaup, similar number of Goldeneye and Goosander, a Barnacle Goose plus both Cetti’s Warbler and Water Rail showing in front of the hide.

At least 48 Whooper Swans downstream from Cilsan Bridge this afternoon with several juveniles amongst them. Too far for photos but impressive to see the river beginning to flood. Plenty of small Redwing flocks about and five Goosander from Dryslwyn.

The two Common scoter were still in the Bay today, still distant but looking quite settled. A boat got too close at one point, causing them to fly, but they just circled round & landed back where they'd been. A Common gull was on the orange buoys by the Barrage.

I'm not sure what I'm getting out of Bluesky. it seems to have been taken over by photographers posting pictures and not a lot of birding. I also don't seem to get real detailed answers to questions like I did on twitter on all sorts of nature subjects.. Bit danted with it all to be honest.. ☹️.

Bit of a Shore Lark smash and grab up the Great Orme this morning! Dashed out of work when the bird had been relocated and arrived to see it showing well on the cliff edge. Took off out of view 10 mins later and I headed back. A great site record and an overdue first for me.

It's sad when huge old trees fall but it does provide opportunities for fossicking around logs and branches and under slabs of bark. And today that produced a new harvestman, Nemastoma bimaculatum. There were also spiders but I've still to go through all my photos.
