Book 11 of 2026: CULPABILITY by Bruce Holsinger. Yes it's an Oprah book. And for the first 300 pages it moves very fast and poses some valid questions about the future of AI...but then it gets a little too preachy. Also it's very clearly from the SWM perspective.

Book 10 of 2026: THE BROOM OF THE SYSTEM by David Foster Wallace. Not his best. Not worth going into here. I enjoyed INFINITE JEST much more. You heard me. And yes, I finished it.

No time to go back, because I already finished Book 9 of 2026: DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL by Matt Dinniman. A bit of a departure for me, and yet also not. Part video game, part RPG, part Hunger Games/Squid Game. Exactly what my brain needs right now.

This was book 6 of 2026 - ON FREEDOM by Timothy Snyder - which I found to be too smart for its own good. Good content, but the structure and tone made it less accessible than a book like this should be right now.

This was book 7 of 2026 - THE SIRENS' CALL by Chris Hayes. A well written work of nonfiction that matched my own perspective but didn't really teach me anything new.

I realized I haven't been sharing my book tally for the year over here. This is book 8 for 2026 - SEVERANCE by Ling Ma. Two thumbs up! Stay tuned for the other 7.

Why is no one raising a zillion alarms about the fact that Elon now has access to the government payment mechanisms? I'm assuming the next step will be to manually shut off those federal grant and loan payments? Will the Supreme Court intervene then? I feel like I'm being gaslit 24/7.

I'm trying so hard not to watch or read too much news this week, but...don't watch his reaction - and his family's reaction and especially his second-in-command's reaction - to Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde's sermon if you don't want to see clear evidence of how little he cares about certain Americans.

For the next 4 years, every time some new policy is enacted or a law is passed or a decision is made, we need to ask "Whom does this REALLY benefit?" Not "Whom do THEY say this benefits?" And if the answer isn't "ALL Americans" - or frankly "ALL humanity" - we need to do something about it.
