Every time I get a new edit I sit down with the absolute confidence of experience, open the file, and go...“I spelled DOOR wrong? WTH?"

Writing romantic tension is wild because one minute they are at a crime scene nudging me: “we could totally kiss! Let’s get to the kissing!”. I get to the kissing and they’re all, “we should talk.”. I mean, sure. But right now? Ok, couldn’t just talk at the crime scene.

It's a special sort of high you fix a narrative snarl with one clean, surgical line of text. Or the low when you realize you now have 102 minor edits to make and track.

It's not that I CAN'T plot. It's just that I sit down with a nice, bullet-pointed plan, get bored, and my brain goes, ”...I mean, if you WANT, we can just emotionally devastate everyone in a one mile radius?" ...and you can't bullet point surprise emotional devastation!

Me driving down the road with a full, committed to publishing plan for the year: *singing along to the radio* my brain: “What if we plot out a whole new series while we’re here.” Me: “We have a schedule.” My brain: “Good one.” Anyway… guess who has to find a slot somewhere for this roadside trash!

I would have had to follow them. Just tailed them like it was my job, befriend them the next time they stop, ply them with chicharron, and find out their story.

Just reading that makes me feel like very methodically and neatly removing my own skin to crawl out of it.

When I was a kid my friend was Catholic. She used to make up sins to confess at Church, then she’d tag on the end that ‘also I lied to a priest’. It was the perfect plan!

This is true! Luckily for me I am difficult enough to get on with that none of them want me. Ask me about how I got kicked out of Scientology! Or Presbyterianism!

MY arm goes numb and loses strength, which sounds like nerve pain to ME! But the doctor says it isn’t nerve pain. So now we are in a one sided war of attrition where I wait to see if I get better (lose) or my arm falls off (I win!). Honestly, spite makes it much easier to be an optimist.
