As the late Azhari grand scholar, Shaykh Muḥammad Muḥyī al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd, reminds us: “It is incumbent upon those engaged in debate that neither should address or refute the words of the other before understanding the intent behind them.” Students of knowledge do this often, unfortunately.
